Let's keep this really simple to start with and help you add some not too scary vegetarian meals to your daily menu. Firstly, there are tons of vegetarian ready meals or meat substitutes on the market now that make life very easy for the novice vegetarian. Most are made from Soya protein, so are a good source of the necessary protein you'll need to ensure you get in your diet. For example: Pies Most large supermarkets have their own brand vegetarian pies or there's 'Linda McCartney' or 'Quorn' ones. All have their own unique recipes, so if you don't like one try the others. The good news too is that some 'Bisto' gravies are vegetarian so you can easily have pie, mash, gravy and veg for an instantly recognisable meal that won't frighten the family! Sausages Again there are lots of different vegetarian versions of these with widely varying flavours, so experiment until you find your favourite! You'll then have the other simple meals of sausage beans and chips, or toad in the hole, hot dogs, etc. Chicken or Turkey style roll etc. There are a variety of these products such as 'RealEat' CHicken Roll with Stuffing which have been developed to taste like chicken or turkey etc. To be honest they haven't really succeeded so far, but they are nice tasting! Again, with some 'Bisto' gravy, roast potatoes, yorkshire puddings and some veg and you have a beautiful Sunday lunch. A point worth making: The great thing about vegetarian options like the ones above is that you can be assured that it will taste exactly the same each time! How many meat meals have you had which are ruined by the meat being too tough, too lean, undercooked, overcooked, or have some horrible lump of gristle in it? Never again! |
